Astra at La Madre Peaks: A New Perspective on Summerlin Living

Astra at La Madre Peaks occupies an elevated stretch of Summerlin’s northwestern edge, where 167 custom homesites sit against a mountain backdrop. Howard Hughes Communities has planned the approximately 171-acre neighborhood around its desert setting, giving buyers the opportunity to create a home shaped by the land and their own preferences.

The setting helps explain the attention Astra has received. Mountain scenery, views across the valley, and the opportunity to design a custom residence bring several appealing possibilities together in one Summerlin address.

For someone considering a home here, the conversation can begin with something quite personal: how would you like to live if you could design the home around it?

A Mountain Setting Within Summerlin

Astra is located west of the 215 Beltway, with its entrance area identified at Lake Mead Boulevard and Park Drift Trail. The community sits along protected conservation land at the base of the La Madre Peaks. Summerlin’s developer describes the higher elevation as offering cooler temperatures and a wider variety of native desert vegetation.

The mountains give the neighborhood a strong sense of place. They also invite a different kind of conversation about the home itself. Where would you want your morning coffee? Which rooms should face the mountains? Would you prefer a shaded courtyard, a generous terrace, or outdoor dining connected directly to the kitchen?

At Astra, those questions can help guide the design from the beginning.

I would also want you to spend time getting familiar with the location. Drive the approach, explore the surrounding area, and consider the places you visit regularly. The setting should feel right when you arrive home, and the location should work comfortably with your daily routine.

Space to Create Something Personal

Astra’s homesites vary in size, shape, and orientation. According to the community’s official materials, they have been arranged to follow the natural contours of the landscape and allow individual architectural responses.

That variety is part of the appeal. A home can begin with the way its owner wants to use the space.

Perhaps you enjoy having guests and want them to feel comfortable staying for a while. You may work from home and want an office with a beautiful outlook and some separation from the main living areas. Or you may be ready to create a home where the kitchen, living room, and outdoor spaces flow together for relaxed evenings with friends.

Custom design gives those preferences a place in the planning process. The right homesite supports the rooms and experiences you care about most.

My recommendation would be to bring your priorities into the conversation early, then involve the architect and builder as you explore the possibilities. Their input can help you picture how a particular parcel could accommodate the home you have in mind.

What Is Happening at Astra Now?

Astra has moved beyond its initial introduction and into the early stages of home construction.

Howard Hughes reported its first six homesite sales in the fourth quarter of 2024, totaling approximately 3.8 acres at an average of $6 million per acre. Those early transactions established Astra’s position in Summerlin’s high-end custom-home market. They were purchases of land, with home design and construction to follow.

In July 2026, Homes.com News reported that the first homes were moving into vertical construction. An October 14 update from a local real estate agent also described paved approach roads and controlled access at the guard gate.

As of this update, Astra’s official website invites prospective buyers to register their interest and arrange a conversation with the sales team. Current homesite releases, availability, pricing, and visit arrangements should be confirmed for the properties you would like to explore.

For buyers following the community, this is a useful time to get familiar with its location and learn how the purchase and design process works.

The Broader Appeal of Summerlin

Astra’s mountain setting comes with a connection to the wider Summerlin community.

Downtown Summerlin offers shopping, dining, and entertainment, along with Las Vegas Ballpark and City National Arena. Summerlin also has parks, trails, golf, and community facilities throughout its villages.

That gives future residents plenty to build into their routines. Dinner out, a baseball game, shopping, or time outdoors can all be part of life in the surrounding area.

When I help buyers choose a location, I want to know which of those things they will actually enjoy. If you regularly meet friends for dinner, we should explore your preferred destinations. If outdoor recreation is a priority, we can look at the routes and access points relevant to your activities.

A beautiful address becomes more meaningful when you understand how you would spend your time there.

Taking Time to Plan Your Home

A custom home involves a longer planning process, and that can be an enjoyable part of the experience when you understand the steps ahead.

Summerlin’s May 2026 update states that Astra’s guidelines allow owners two years to finalize their home design and five years to complete the home. The current community and purchase documents will explain how those timelines apply to a particular homesite.

That gives us an important starting point for discussing your move. If you are relocating, we can consider where you would like to live while your home is being created. If you already own in Las Vegas, we can discuss how the design and construction schedule may fit with a future sale.

We would also confirm current community fees and work with your design and construction professionals to understand the full project budget. Having that information early helps you make decisions comfortably and focus on the parts of the home that you value most.

Looking Closely at the View

Astra’s elevated position is one of its most appealing features, but each homesite offers its own perspective.

I would encourage you to consider the view from the spaces where you expect to spend the most time. The outlook from the kitchen or a covered patio may be especially important to you. You may prefer the mountains as a close backdrop or want to explore a parcel with a broader valley outlook.

The home’s orientation, outdoor layout, and plans for surrounding parcels all belong in that conversation. Reviewing them together helps you and your architect make thoughtful use of the setting.

It is the kind of detail worth taking time with. You are choosing where you will enjoy that view for years to come.
